Help Holocaust survivors in need and add meaning to your Mitzvah
One third of Holocaust Survivors in the United States lives in poverty. Blue Card Foundation's mission is to allieviate their struggle. We launched Bnei Mitzvah Project for B'nai Mitzvah students, who seek to enrich their experience of this milestone event by strengthening their ties to the global Jewish community and by performing Tzedakah, an act of charity.
WHY THE BNEI MITZVAH PROJECT?
The program will provide you with the opportunity to learn about the Holocaust and experience the meaningful value of Tzedakah by organizing an age-appropriate fundraising project to help needy victims of Nazi persecution whom our organization helps.
Additionally, students are given an opportunity to meet with a survivor of the Holocaust, understand the enduring lessons of this tragic history, and enhance a personal connection to Judaism. The students complete their projects by donating a portion of the monetary presents to help needy Holocaust survivors served by The Blue Card.
THE BLUE CARD
The Blue Card mission is to provide direct financial assistance, with dignity and respect, to needy Holocaust survivors living in the United States. The Blue Card is the only organization in the United States whose sole mission is to aid needy Holocaust survivors by providing financial support. The Blue Card is unique in that it provides both long-term ongoing support and emergency grants for basic human needs in the most caring way.
We strive that every Survivor have a safety of housing, nutrition, and medical care. We cover the housing, food purchases, medical and dental care not covered by insurance and other essential needs.
IN-HOME CARE SERVICES
With this initiative, our goal is to ensure safe and independent living. We provide assistance especially for those in remote areas who are not getting other help. It lets them keep living independently and lessen the effects of illness and disability.
EMERGENCY CASH ASSISTANCE
EMERGENCY PREVENTION PROGRAM
The Blue Card supports the most poverty-stricken survivors with monthly stipend. We also provide Telephone Emergency Response System for these who don't have the financial resources to pay for the phone service and would otherwise be left alone in case of emergency.
HEALTH AND WELLBEING PROGRAMS
The Blue Card offers aid to survivors battling cancer, provides financial support for Jewish Holidays and survivors' birthday. We also organize summer vacations so survivors can spend enjoyable moments together.
"The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference."
- Elie Wiesel
Through Blue Card I learned about how many Holocaust survivors struggle to afford their basic needs and am proud to have played a small role in assisting in its vital mission.
“Through The Blue Card, I have become friendly with Holocaust survivors, who might have been my great-grandparents’ friends, and learned about the past. I can also help them with fundraising and the gift of my bicycle racing, as part of The Blue Card’s team.”
“For my project I visited two special survivors with The Blue Card Purim baskets (mishloach manos), and spent time listening their stories. This helped me learn about tragic events of World War II and how we must never forget.”
Eva C., when she was 16 years old. Eva is one of over 3,000 Holocaust survivors who The Blue Card is helping.
